Group Newsletter

OCTOBER 2011

Welcome to the autumn edition of our newsletter. I hope you have all enjoyed your summer holidays and managed to do plenty of good walks. In particular I hope you made the most of our Indian summer last week.

Our Hawes weekend away was a big success. Here's what Rockin' Roy had to say about it....

"The YHA at Hawes is very good and it belies its humble rating. The Saturday walks were something of a first for me, with Derek leading the longer walk and I led the shorter one.

Both walks set off together for the first 3.5 miles, then we went our separate ways. I really think this added to the comradeship of the weekend. The longer Sunday walk was lead by Mike Pell on the Pennine Way then onto Weather Fell. The shorter walk was me again, although because we could not use the stepping stones it was not much shorter. We walked to Bainbridge and back by Sedbusk.

The Saturday night meal at the Crown was a splendid affair. Derek pulled out all the stops with organisation skills that were second-to-none.

A good weekend all-round and good to see many new faces on the weekend."

Many thanks to all three walkleaders and of course to Derek for organising everything so well! Don''t forget to book your place at Betws-y-coed in December. The closing date is approaching fast.

Also Dave Sidgwick is now taking bookings for the hot pot after the walks on 7 January.

NEW MEMBERS

Welcome to all the new members of our group who joined in July and August. Namely Gill Roberts, Joyce Smith, Stanley Brown, Harry Burton, Mr and Mrs Heap, Mary Wallace and John Bamford. Also Mrs Lord has transferred to Stockport from Gtr Manchester; and Judy Braithwaite, who is already a very familiar face, has transferred from East Cheshire.

We look forward to meeting you all on a walk soon and hope you will enjoy it.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Calendar 2012

I received an email from Buxton Mountain Rescue which is a charitable organisation, asking if any of our members would like to buy a colour calendar at £5. Each month bears a photo showing an incident they have had to deal with. All proceeds used for their very worthy cause. If anyone wants to buy one, please contact me in the first instance.
